(China Metallurgical News) Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Technology Made New Breakthroughs in Steel Enterprises
--The Frequency Conversion Energy Saving Rate of the Main Exhaust Fan of the Large Sintering Machine Exceeding 20%

Recently, the frequency conversation project for the main exhaust fan of the domestic largest sintering machine was put into operation in the iron works of the Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd.
 

With the domestic steel industry eliminating the backward capacity and equipment and the accelerating pace of technology, sintering machine has a tendency of upsizing, and the 450m2 sintering machine has become the model that major steel enterprises generally select.
 

The main exhaust fan of the sintering machine is generally driven by synchronous motors, its power consumption usually accounts for 50% of that of the entire production line, and the air volume control accuracy of the main exhaust fan can directly determine the quality and production of sintering ore. Thus, the renovation of frequency conversion technology for the main exhaust fan of the large-scale sintering machine is fairly difficult and it has been likened to the "commanding heights" of the energy saving and emission reduction technology applications for the domestic steel enterprises. Specifically, on the one hand the frequency conversion technology renovation requires improving the starting performance of the motor to realize soft start, extend the life of the motor and reduce the impact on power grid. The frequency converters are standby for each other, any one of the inverters can work switching with the motor so as to improve the system stability and dependability. On the other hand, the main exhaust fan should be able to convert the frequency and speed according to the permeability of the sintering bed and the thickness of the material so that the fan can run in the best operating situation and realize the effect of energy saving. In the case of the output reduction operation and the temporary shutdown, the temporary overhaul and other situations that do not need to shut down the main exhaust fan, the fan can be adjusted to the minimum power so that the system can be running economically.
 

Dongfang Electric Corporation has established the strategic partnership with Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. since 2011; its subordinate enterprise Dongfang Hitachi (CD) Electrical Control Equipment Co., Ltd. is the earliest enterprise specialized in producing of high-voltage inverters and it undertook the frequency conversion renovation project for the main exhaust fan of the 450m2 sintering machine for the iron works of the Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. in March 2011.
 

At present, the project equipment has passed the acceptance with a remarkable energy savings performance; more than 90,000 KWHs can be saved per day with the saving rate of above 20% which had achieved the expected targets of the project. The success of the project met the process control requirements of the sintering output and quality and also broke the "commanding heights" of the frequency conversion and energy conservation technology applications of iron and steel enterprises which would help to advance the pace of the frequency conversion renovation for the synchronous motor of the main exhaust fan of the large sintering machine for domestic steel enterprises.
